Skip Walters - Hooked Up With Yakfish

River Rat (Skip) Posted on Sunday, February 04, 2001 - 06:19 pm:
well i hooked up with yakfish. we did not get to fish much.i went over a ledge i think i got airborn.but not sure but any way i wound up with big hole in my boat.when i landed on top of another rock.and i tore the braces loose for the raised transom.yakfish was still there when i left.i think that it was a boat ride he will not soon forget.i think i might put a seat belt in for the rear seat.yak was the third person that i nailed a rock with they flew out of their seat .i have two bilge pumps but i did not make much difference.

Tim Hanford (Trackerpro17) Posted on Sunday, February 04, 2001 - 07:03 pm:
What kind of a boat did you use? You must have hit pretty hard to tear a hole in it. Glad you are ok. Did you guys catch many?

Brian King (Brikng) Posted on Sunday, February 04, 2001 - 07:47 pm:
Ooooooh! Sorry to hear that, Rat! Thankfully, no one was injured. How much work will it take to repair the Rat-vessel?

Yakfish might wanna stick to yaks for awhile after that ride!

Brian

Tim Hanford (Trackerpro17) Posted on Sunday, February 04, 2001 - 09:31 pm:
You don't seem to be too upset about it. Have you done this before? Where exactly were you fishing in relation to the power lines? Poor yak, took me out in a kayak and I rolled it, now a bumpy ride with rat. He may stay away from fishing with the rs.com crowd now LOL.

River Rat (Skip) Posted on Sunday, February 04, 2001 - 09:54 pm:
we were on the way down to the rail road bridge. and yea i have done this before.ask woodchuck about his ride.

Tim Hanford (Trackerpro17) Posted on Sunday, February 04, 2001 - 09:58 pm:
Sounds like you need a crash helmet to ride with river rat LOL!!!!!!!

Billy (Redneckshadrap) Posted on Monday, February 05, 2001 - 06:52 am:
Ratt and Yak,
I think Ratt you could paint a #3 on your boat and race the Daytona 500. LOL. Glad no one was hurt. Sorry you tore up your boat. It's easier to fix a boat than a Ratt and a Yak. I fished yesterday and ran out of battery. The river was a little stronger than I anticipated. It was my first journey on the river with my twoman boat. A lot to learn on my part.

Rat that ride was mild heck there was only 10 feet of air below the boat when we cleared the falls. I found it rather excite'n when skipped thru that campsite on the island good thing the 60 mph wind ripped the tent from the bow so you could see. I never seen geese splatter like that, just glad you brought those clean wipes to get thier inards off my glasses. I got a little scared when the outboard hit me in the back off the head, thought I might of broke it the outboard that is.

Yakfish Posted on Monday, February 05, 2001 - 04:08 pm:
Caught 5, very sore from lifting boat, must rest -Fakyish

Seriously though, Rat- thanks for the boat ride. I'll try again sometime. Just like Tim, I don't scare that easy. At least we weren't involved in a jet boat on jet boat collision like I was on my first jet boat ride last June with the Potomac River Smallmouth Club. I did want to mention the PA Fish and Boat Commision Officer we encountered while we were attempting to patch the boat. He harrassed River Rat for about ten minutes about type 4 PFD's, told him that his boat registration wasn't current when it was, then left. Before he arrived the first time, we had propped the boat up on rocks and boards, so we could work on a dry surface to patch the hole. He returned a few minutes later. It wasn't until this time that he finally noticed that there was a softball sized hole in the boat. Rat muttered something along the lines of, "No officer, we just beached the boat for the h#@& of it!". He then graciously offered to give one of us a ride "if we were still there around five o'clock." (It was around 12:30) Apparently it was more important for this j@#$%&s to go harrass more people than to help someone out. My Pennsylvania Non Resident Fishing Liscence is well used, and worth every penny, but I am upset that it is used to pay his salary.

On a side note, we saw other anglers using spinnerbaits and fast retrieve crankbaits to catch fish around where we were beached. Yakfish

Woodchuck Posted on Monday, February 05, 2001 - 04:58 pm:
Don't worry about Rat fix'n his boat he'll have her patched up in a heart beat being the resourceful fellow he is.

Yak your going to have to go on one of my midnight rapid runs after biting off too much river than you can fish in a day. There is nothing like floating up to a roaring rapid in the dark and thinking "I wonder if this is the best line". Then you have to go by sense of smell to find the take out point in Deliverance land. BOY what a thrill....NOT. After the first time I said "I ain't going to do that again" 3 more times later I'm still saying the same thing.

Yakfish Posted on Monday, February 05, 2001 - 05:13 pm:
The worst whitewater after dark experience I had was in a class I - II rapid near Swains Lock (Riverbend for you Virginians). I can usually hear the water and feel where it wants to pull me, and get an idea of the best route. I had paddled upstream to the WSSC ledge, and got into an unending amount of aggressive smaller fish hitting as the sun went down. I only had about a half mile to travel, so I didn't worry about the small rapids. When I got near, I heard the sky rumbling. By the time I was in front of it, the sky had opened up with all it's weight. I couldn't hear anything but water hitting water in every direction. I ended up pinning the boat with the cockpit facing upstream. I got out, stood up, gathered my gear, sat on the rock my boat was pinned on, and waited for the thunderstorm to pass. It took me a few minutes to get it unwedged once I got back in the water. Live and learn.

woodchuck yakfish has so much stuff on that yak that if it ever turns over. it will stay upside down because of the weght.i think he need something bigger. what do you think??.

Woodchuck Posted on Tuesday, February 06, 2001 - 08:04 am:
I remember way back when I was Yak's age which is a few cells past a zygote. I carried a truck load of gear in my canoe but I eventually learned that less is more. I don't think that Yak would have much problem being under water since he is still breathing embryonic fluid.

Yak you've spent your days fish'n with your eyes and ears opened and learned more than most guys twice your age. Young doesn't mean dumb but I'll pass the torch...now run.

It's nice not being one the youngest guy on the board anymore.

River Rat (Skip) Posted on Wednesday, February 07, 2001 - 11:15 pm:
i got my boat fixed yakfish ready for some fishing.

Tim Hanford (Trackerpro17) Posted on Wednesday, February 07, 2001 - 11:33 pm:
What did you have to do to repair it?

River Rat (Skip) Posted on Thursday, February 08, 2001 - 12:02 am:
i put a 14inch/24 inch plate on the bottom 100 guage alum.

Woodchuck Posted on Thursday, February 08, 2001 - 09:08 am:
Rat 100 guage? I thinks that might be aluminum foil.

Yakfish Posted on Thursday, February 08, 2001 - 09:52 am:
Rat- I'll be in touch- Maybe weekend after next. Glad to hear that your boat is fixed.
