The Ident-I-Card Company makes a neat product called Fish Identicards. These cards are designed to aid in quick identification of up to 48 different freshwater fish. Ident-I-Card breaks the fish into families (bass, sunfish, pike, catfish, perch & walleye, crappie & white bass, trout, and Great Lakes trout & salmon). The photo at right shows the bass card which highlights largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, redeye, and suwannee bass.
The front of each card shows the fish in full color and highlights the most identifiable characteristics. The back of each card gives the common name, scientific name, a description, preferred water temperature, and current freshwater record for each fish. Each card is nicely laminated and waterproof. The cards are 4" X 6" and will fit easily into a vest or tackle bag for field use.
Not only are these cards handy for veteran anglers, but they are nice for assisting the novice angler in identifying the many different fish they may encounter while on the water. Another great way to use these cards is to buy them for kids. Young anglers will enjoy learning about our aquatic friends through the use of these cards. They are a valuable teaching tool for those who spend time sharing their fishing knowledge with others.
The cards can be purchased individually by family or as a complete set. The set includes a ring for keeping the cards together. At the time of this review, the individual cards sell for $1.49 and the complete set goes for $9.95 (subject to change). A great value for a product that makes fish identification easy and enjoyable!
