My Fishing Log (Guest Review)
by Duane Richards

Trip Information Screenshot I inquired about this special fishing software package about a year ago. A few months back I received an email from Larry@gbpro.com with a link to download the software and give it a spin.

Downloading the software directly from www.gbpro.com was fairly fast (at 56k) and easy to start up. Once downloaded and unzipped, I knew this free software was a winner. I soon began to transfer my year 2000 fishing information into the new software program with ease.

My Fishing Log has several features, which include 3 major boxes: Trip Information, Conditions, and Fish Caught. Within these windows you may include information from your fishing trips in a detailed environment. Each window can be toggled back and forth with ease, all on one page.

My Fishing Log also has a fisherman’s diary and Best Catch section that are simple to use and easy to add information to.

The software, however, lacks a few small items that would greatly improve upon the user ease. It lacks the scroll down boxes in almost every section (these normally appear at the far right hand of the page as an arrow or box you can move up and down to scroll the information like a word processor uses). These boxes would allow you to scroll up and down your entered information, instead of having to highlight and pull down manually to view and read you’re past trip(s) written information. Also it lacks the ability to compare and print different reports. Reports can be printed, but these will be individual trips and must be compared by hand.

If you’re looking for a software package to keep your detailed fishing information on, with ease of operation, very minimal cost ($12.00 only if you like it!), this is a great buy and it performs extremely well. Give it a download at www.gbpro.com and see if it’s for you.

Fishing Conditions Screenshot I have been using the My Fishing Log program for several months now and have to say it is the most user-friendly fishing log I've tried. The program is designed for recreational anglers. It is very easy to navigate and allows you to record the important details of your outings.

The major sections of the program include trip information, trip conditions, fish caught, a diary, best fish section, and a built-in calendar. The trip info page records the "where, when, with who", and initial comments for each outing. The conditions and fish caught sections utilize drop-down menus that contain preselected information. You can quickly fill in the blanks by using the drop-down menu choices. The nice thing about this program is that you do not have to use any of the preselected information. You can type in whatever you wish and disregard the menus.

The diary allows you to input additional information if you desire. It is basically a blank page for you to save as much detail as you need. The best fish section stores all of the information about your best fish to-date. You can simply edit as necessary. The built-in calendar automatically highlights the current date and allows you to enter reminders for specific dates. Any of the sections can be edited later if needed. If you need to print out a specific report, the program allows you to do that. My Fishing Log works equally well for both rivers and lakes.

My Fishing Log is available from Gold Bass Productions. You can download a full version for a 21 day free trial. If you decide you want to keep the program, the cost is a mere $12. If you don't want the program, simply delete it from your computer and pay nothing. For those who fish tournaments, there is a tournament version available. My Fishing Log is also available on cd-rom for $21. For those of you who like to keep your fishing log on the computer, this program is well worth a look.

In addition to the fishing log software, GBP offers a selection of free fishing wallpaper and screensavers for your computer.
