Fishing Online: 1,000 Best Web Sites
by Brian King
According to Craig Buddo, author of the new book Fishing Online: 1,000 Best Web Sites, he spent two years visiting tens of thousands of fishing sites looking for the most informative, up-to-date sites that cover all types of fishing. After reading through this 400 page book, I'd say Mr. Buddo did an excellent job of compiling a very useful resource for finding good fishing information on the Internet.
The book is easy to read and indexed in a manner that allows the reader to find sites quickly. There are several categories and the sites in each category are listed in alphabetical order. There is also a main index done alphabetically. The various categories include bass fishing, fly fishing, freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing, weather, tide and map sites, state fishing sites, boat and tackle sites, women's and kids' sites, International sites, media sites, organizations, and a listing of 250 of the best fishing message forums. There are 300 screenshots of different Web sites.
Mr. Buddo chose 310 of the 1,000 sites and designated them as "Top Rated" for design and content. The 1,000 sites in the book are not ranked in any order, but the top rated sites are designated as such with an icon. The author provides a description of each site so the reader will know what to expect when visiting a site.
In addition to the fishing sites, Mr. Buddo also provides useful information on how to properly search for fishing information using various search engines. He gives some pointers on message forum etiquette and includes some sites where readers can find free software, fly tying patterns, boat building plans, books, maps, art, and fishing logs. The author provides information on fishing newsgroups and mailing lists.
This book is a great resource for the angler who likes to use the Internet for gathering information. Whether you are interested only in bass fishing or you are a multi-species angler, this book is a must-have to keep next to your computer. The book is available from Stoeger Publishing or at online bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com. It is also available at local bookstores.
