C.C. Filson Flyfishing Strap Vest
As are all vests, it was designed for the fly fisherman, but being a wading spin rod fisherman it is by far the most practical and functional vest I have used. I look no more for something better. It is designed with one large main brass zippered pocket on each front side for the largest of fly boxes. I use these for soft plastics which are best stored in the bags they are purchased in. You can easily store from five to ten bags on each side. If you carry a lot of hard baits then the pockets will easily handle the smaller plastic tackle boxes. Inside each of the two main pockets are four open divided pockets that are intended for fly fishing leaders and tippet spools. I use these small pockets for my splitshot, hook sharpener, thermometer, and extra worm hooks. On the front outside of each main pocket are two roomy small fly box size pockets in which I carry jigheads, wormhooks, topwaters, and jerkbaits. These pockets have brass snap closures that are designed to be easily closed with one hand. It has a large open type back pouch that will hold all types of extras, plus I carry my camera, waterbottle, weight scales, extra reelspool, and sometimes a lunch and rain jacket.
The feature I like most of this vest is its adjustability. It can be worn as a regular length vest or as a shorty type vest which is mainly designed for deep wading, but I found this to be a valuable asset to cut down on fatigue. By wearing the vest short it keeps all the pockets high enough so that when your arms are in the reeling position they are in a natural "against the body form", not pushed out away and rubbing fly boxes. It's as if you aren't even wearing a vest. Don't worry about busting through the brush to get to that hot spot first with this one, it can take it. A free catalog can be obtained on the internet.
